hidden unbridled
slowly arriving
from where
were they hiding?
asleep
through the week
but awakened
like lightning,
it’s here
they revere
because here
isn’t home
for a day
or a night
to unite
the alone
at a glance
they’re the faces
just greeting
and drinking
while under
the skin
they’ve been
teeming
and teeming
and thinking
and thinking
compulsively thinking
exhausted from worry’s
relentless unleashing
but what if these thoughts
all at once were let out?
and the minds did the talking
instead of the mouths?
would the air get so thick
that the oxygen drained?
with the curtain then lifted
is what’s left just insane?
or perhaps would the voices
be familiar instead?
they’re the madness
that wakes us
then puts us to bed
if every man’s brain
is hidden unbridled
is life lived
on the surface
or under the smile?
